Many wonder what I do when I am not writing, free-lance editing, being a wife, a full-time mom, running our business, teaching art and dance conferences, obtaining my degree, speaking, coaching, or counseling. Well, on the side when all my Matter Hatter Days slow down and I have time for a great cup of hot tea, I am in my husband’s art studio watching the master create yet another masterpiece. After 23 years of togetherness, with all the roller coaster rides that come with being married to an amazing man who just so happens to have the ability to paint and create from his God-given imagination – I watch – amazed anew – each time the paintbrush creates a new stroke.
To be able to crawl into my husband’s mind and peer out his eye-gate from the creative gift within would be a treasure. I love, yes love, to watch him paint. When we first got married I remember crawling up under his drafting desk with my favorite quilt and whatever book I was reading at the time and just watch him. Of course, I would look around the pages when he wasn’t looking and lose myself in color, shadows, and light. Keith would work into the early hours of the morning and he would wake me when it was time to walk to the bedroom. I do miss those times as they were lost when our children came. Now, I sit at his desk or peer through the french doors from our living room, still with a cup of hot tea or coco.
It takes time to stop and peer through; to enjoy such beauty being created. Time well worth taking. Keith and I truly enjoy watching the faces of those who are blessed by his work. Seeing their faces light up, hearts joyed, and sometimes a few tears of peace, joy, and healing. God has a way of using our gifts to change the hearts and lives of others in ways we are unable to fathom. This is why Keith and I continue to do what we do because we love people.
You know, a person never really knows how much another person is blessed from another’s gift. To be honest, I think God sometimes hides that part away so that we can remain humble. Staying humble allows the creativity to flow continuously and the true heart of the creation to come out. We cannot get in the way when we are truly creating with a heart of serving, with a heart of love, and with a heart of inspiration.
I do not want to make this evening’s blog too long as I want to share some of my husband’s masterpieces. Like I said before, he is an amazing man but more than that he is my love, my best friend, a true Godly man of integrity and strength. No matter what has come his way in the 23 years I have had the pleasure of sharing his life; he still remains steadfast, full of life, full of God, a man of his word, and my rock. In nine days we will celebrate 18 years of marriage . . . yes, I would do it all over again.
To view more of his work click on these two links: www.keithgoodson.com and www.thelightoftheworldpainting.com. I have only posted a few and some are running on our Christmas Sale that ends December 15th. You can order online, email, or phone – by credit card or check.
Hope you enjoy these pieces of art as much as I have enjoyed watching them come into being . . .
