My youngest daughter has been asking each family member what is his or her New Year’s resolution. I keep telling her I do not have one and she seriously believes that is a problem or will be creating one.
What do you believe?
Here is my take on it. . .
I do not make New Year’s resolutions. I have done that in years past and I am the only one who ends up feeling disappointed. So, why place so much stress on myself when I have enough already with just ‘life’.
So, what do I do?
First, I understand the principal of John 15: 1-6.
Then on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, I mentally go over my past year and I ask God to
1) What I could have done differently in my attitude towards others
2) How I could have been His hands and feet in a situation that I either neglected or chose to do ‘my way’
3) All the areas in which I feel that I have failed Him or someone else
4) Who I need to see through His eyes and not my own
5) What He wants for me for this New Year & what I need to change within me to become a better reflection of Him
I write all these down. Then I ‘let go’ of what needs to be placed at His feet.
I surrender. Everything . . . I do not look back.
Then I trust Him to help me walk in His ways for the New Year.
It’s that simple and I’m no longer making New Year resolutions with such grand good intentions that I know I can never keep.
This is what should lead us in our last day going into our New Day . . .
“Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.” ~ Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 AMP
I encourage each of you to embrace 2016 as another year to build a stronger relationship with God, learn more about yourself, and to love more.
John 15:1-6 AMP “I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit]. You are already clean because of the word, which I have given you [the teachings which I have discussed with you]. Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
